What I'm Loving Wednesday... Ladies who lunch!

I'm late I know. But it's been a busy busy day. Starting with my kind of total FAIL at waking up early as I said I would. I mean I got up at 6:30 so that's pretty early considering I really don't have anywhere pressing to be in the mornings right now. But I realized that getting up at 5:30 in the am to workout before school is just not going to happen. Hahah.. so much for wishful thinking. I'll just stick to my regular afternoon schedule!

Moving past that failure let's focus on what it is that I'm LOVING this week...shall we? ;) As always thanks Jamie for hosting!

I am LOVING my ladies, spending time with them, celebrating birthdays, planning dinner parties, hosting get togethers etc. I love girl time and it is always something I look forward to!

Last Sunday some of us got together to treat our friend Kylie to lunch for her birthday! After a few failed attempts at pre planned locations we ended up at a beautiful Italian Cafe that ended up being even more perfect than we could have planned. After lunch we did some shopping at a Second Hand/ Buy Sell Trade store! I think my post inspired us! It was a great afternoon surrounded by some of the lovely ladies in my life.

The delicious Aqua Pazza in Downtown San Mateo

The ladies

The birthday girl and her main man... sweetness...

He is just so precious, he can crash ladies lunch any time!

I am blessed beyond words to have so many wonderful ladies in my life.

Looking forward to seeing some of these lovely faces again on Friday at my little girls night get together!

Hope you all have lots to love this week as well!

The View...

A random mixed bag of photos and things that make up the every day for me right now. These last few days of summer are fleeting and I'm even thinking about trying to get myself adjusted to my Fall "schedule"... starting tomorrow... so it's not as shocking once school starts! Which means up at 5:30 and in bed by 9:30. Yikes. I'm attempting morning workouts this Fall so that I have more time in the late afternoon (early evening) to "work" which really can mean any number of things. Lesson plan, get creative with classroom projects, clean the house, blog a little more, run errands etc. The list could potentially go on and on. We'll see how that goes and maybe just for the accountability factor I'll throw it on the blog. I'll be waking at 5:30 tomorrow to hit the gym, and be dressed, ready and lunch "packed" by 7:20. Which is the time I need to be out the door on school days. Luckily it's still technically summer vacation so once 7:20 hits tomorrow I can enjoy my coffee and then plan the rest of my relaxing "no-work" day hahahah.

Here's the view right now though...and I'm certainly loving it!

A few teaching tools library finds mixed with my own teaching materials, combined with my planner and a classroom pin board. This is the current view from my couch and I am getting excited and overwhelmed with planning, creating, and preparing for Fall! Ha!

Since I will be working part time and technically in an already established classroom, I'm really trying to find lessons and activities that are my own that still tie into the established classroom routines and curriculum. I am excited to job share this Fall especially with two teachers that have been doing this for some time, it's almost an extension of student teaching combined with subbing combined with having my own class.. make sense? Ha.. basically I'm hoping to learn a lot while also having a good amt. of responsibility while also getting paid to do it. The best of all worlds for me right now.

Hometown Library...soo many memories.

Speaking of the Library I happened to walk past the one in my "hometown" the other afternoon and had to snap a pic. It's just so pretty and holds a lot of memories. A lot of time was spent here, mainly socializing in Junior High. But for as long as I can remember I have always been a "library" person. I went to story time when I was a kid, spent after school hours here in Junior High and High School and more hours than I would like to count in College. Now it serves as a wonderful free resource for teaching materials, fun reading and free movies!

I've also been getting lots of play time in. ;) I've enjoyed several play dates this summer with my friends and their kids. I can't wait to join them one day with a cutie patootie of my own...until then Mr. Jones is perfectly happy that I get my baby crazy out with other peoples children ha!

And even though this is not a frugal fashion clothing item, I did have to snap a pic and share this lovely tea cup to go with my already pretty blue and white Asian inspired saucer. I kind of like how they don't match and I love my hot pink geraniums paired with the blue and white. For 99 cents I couldn't resist.

Speaking of hot pink...the sunset the other evening was electric!

That's the view right now...hope yours is just as lovely.

Frugal Fashion...

I wanted to share the goods I found at Goodwill the other day and also discuss a few money saving tips I have learned over the last two years.

Super cute light weight sweater, slightly asymmetrical with mid length sleeves in a pretty pinkish coral color right on trend! Adore it. $5

Chunky layered stone necklace $4.49 perfect accessory for any jewel toned top!

Heavier weight long sleeve with a bit of stretch which makes it hang perfectly, in a perfectly deep turquoise. Great with jeans or dresses up cute with black skinnies and a chunky necklace. $5.

And this tunic from a previous post. Not a good photo but another pretty pink/coral number, rolled sleeves, button down and belted with matching sash/belt perfect with sandals for summer or leggings, boots, and a scarf for Fall. $5

All items perfect for work and play!

You should know, that while I am lucky to live with the amazing Mr. Jones who helps out in many ways I have really had to learn how to be a more conscious spender after I went back to school 2 almost 3 years ago! I went from living with a roommate (known as roomie on here!) and living off of triscuits, cheese and cocktails, buying myself something new almost every weekend, going out, getting weekly mani/pedi's and living from pay check to paycheck but with lots of shopping and bad spending habits that left me with very little savings.

Living with a boyfriend and transitioning to a student again living off of meager student loans in one of the worlds most expensive cities is no joke. With roomie, I rarely bought groceries and therefore spent way too much money at the salad bar at Whole Foods on a daily basis, eating out, getting cocktails a few times a week, buying a "going out" outfit almost every Friday and living it up in the "Big City". But once I went back to school, moved home, then in with Mr. Jones, life drastically changed in lots of ways. One major area was income, and lifestyle.

It should be known that I ONLY buy second hand or CLEARANCE clothing items. Not sale, but clearance... like more than 50% off. My personal rule is if it is retail it has to be clearance and cannot be more than $15. If it is second hand it has to be under $10. I also rarely go clothes shopping. I used to love shopping, putting together unique and fun outfits, perusing fashion magazines and trying my hardest to stay on trend at all times. I also worked in retail at Buffalo Exchange for a bit in college (which taught me all about the amazing world of Buy Sell Trade clothing) but I also shopped till I dropped on a regular basis.

When I went back to school for teaching my style changed a lot. I shopped for more classic pieces that could work over multiple seasons, things that were acceptable for the classroom but also "cute" and comfort was also major. There is nothing worse than treading all over a college campus in uncomfortable shoes, being there all day and not having layers to transition into and feeling uncomfortable in 3hr long classes while toting around a 50lb bag full of books, food, and school supplies!

I also stopped going out as frequently therefore I "needed" less as far as evening outfits were concerned. I still spend more than $15 on items like running shoes, jackets and jeans. (BUT I've only just recently re-stocked these items in the last year and have managed to keep all of them under $50 through sales or shopping around until I found the best deal.) And because they are basics they should be around in my closet for quite some time.

I went through my closet and pulled out almost everything I had bought on clearance or second hand in the last year. (meaning this is pretty much all I've bought give or take a few F21 pieces under $15 and items for weddings I have been in) Anything that was left in my closet is either older than a year or was a gift. None of these items cost more than $12 and most cost under $6.

This brings me to...clearance items and second hand shopping! I still don't shop that often but when I do I make sure that it's something I am really going to use, meaning I'm not buying it for one specific occasion and it can transition through seasons easily. I also try to steer clear of anything that will need altering. It's easy to find pieces for a "steal" and convince yourself that with a few minor tweaks it will be perfect. I learned this lesson the hard way. I recently bought a second hand Old Navy dress that I am IN LOVE with. I'm wearing it in several of my NC/SC posts.

I adore this dress...but not the cost!

Well it was $5 flat at Goodwill, looked like it had NEVER been worn was my size technically but still needed to be taken in and up (I am very petite) well I took it in w/o bothering to ask how much it would cost thinking it would be $15 and turns out it cost $40 to alter. $5 adorable black Old Navy Dress that I can wear over a few seasons...STEAL... $45 SECOND HAND OLD NAVY DRESS.... NOT a steal my friends.

Therefore I try really hard to put things back that don't fit perfectly which also helps curb spending. I might find 20 pieces $5 or less at Goodwill or other second hand stores but in reality only one or 2 fit like a glove. If you buy it and it doesn't fit right it will just hang in your closet forever which means you just wasted $5.

As far as clearance goes I always check Gap, they have great sale items, and they are all usually basic enough that I can hang on to them for a long time. I also only really shop at places like TJ Maxx, Kohls, or Nordstrom Rack. I buy most of my shoes and "under garments" from Nordstrom Rack because they carry nicer well made brands on the cheap folks. And things like shoes and "undergarments" need to be well made so they are not falling apart since they get so much wear.

Now I'm not a super trendy fashionista, and I can't lie I have to restrict myself from perusing fashion blogs and magazines because I do get envious of all the fun super trendy looks that I can't afford to buy. But I never feel dated in what I'm wearing and I feel like I always look put together, so saving and shopping can be done! I hope my little rant gave you some inspiration to try out second hand stores and I would love to hear from you about any tips or stores that you love for a good deal!

Happy weekend friends! Off to lay by the pool in my new summer swimsuit that I scored for $10 on clearance at H&M!

(oh we also bought those cute Lacoste towels on sale at Macy's buy one get one free! Perfect for the pool and vacation since we didn't have any beach towels!)

Catching up with Carolina!

This will be the last re-cap of our Carolina trip! We broke the trip up into four parts. 1st two days were at my moms parents house (granny & paw paw), the next 2 days at my dads parents (grandma & grandpa) then we were off to Wilmington to visit my uncle & cousins, and then on to our own vacation in Charleston! Phew.. whirlwind.

Hope you enjoy looking at our photos!! Off to see The Help this afternoon with my darling friend Dana and obviously thoroughly enjoying the remaining weeks of summer vacation!

Family BBQ's...

Morning walk by the lake...

AM Yoga poolside with grandma...love.

Acting like a kid again in grandma's yard...

Spending time with those that we love...

Drawing fishy's with cute cousins...

And relaxing by sunset in the evenings, counting all of life's blessings.

Heading to Charleston and spending every afternoon just like this...

Being surprised by Mr. Jones and staying at my dream hotel...

Charleston Place...the definition of Southern Style & Grace.

Morning workouts by the pool...

And a glass of wine on the terrace to start the evening right...

Evening dates... enjoying Charlestons amazing restaurants...

This trip we ate at Hominy Grill, Virginia's on King, Poogans Porch, Slightly North of Broad, and Reds at Bohicket Marina

The only repeat restaurant we went to on this trip was Virginia's because we loved their breakfast so much and had been talking about it since last summer. We also ate there twice on this trip once for brunch and once for lunch! I would highly recommend all of the restaurants we went to except I was not at all impressed with Reds! And we went because I feel like I read about Charleston bloggers eating there all the time!! Maybe it was just an off day? Anyhow this city is known for their amazing restaurants and we already have a list of places for next summer!! (Hence our morning workouts everyday on vacation...can we say biscuits and grits with every meal! yum)

The "cooler" ha... evenings were spent touring the antebellum homes, The College of Charleston, The Battery and harbor.

I know I am biased because my family is from the South, but truly it is such a beautiful place filled with so much American history. Places like Charleston with it's winding streets and cobblestones, and historic homes beautifully preserves the past while also being a center for art, food and music. Dreamy is all I can say.

Hope you all have wonderful weekends!!! And you've enjoyed re-visiting our trip as much as I have!

XOXO- Miss V

What I'm Loving Wednesday...The Good Life.

I am a majorly sentimental person. And if you know me in real life or if you've followed my blog for some time you're probably used to my overly sappy, and very heartfelt, sentimental ways. So this post will come as no surprise. Day to day life takes all kinds of paths, ups and downs, highs and lows. So, part of being overly sentimental is hanging on and savoring the moments that fill your heart with love, joy, and accomplishment because sometimes, real life isn't always these things but most of the time it is. It's just that you just have to be conscious enough to recognize it, appreciate it and reflect on it.

When I think about what I'm loving this week I keep hearing the "Good Life" song playing over and over in my head.... you know the one.. (one republic)... So this week, what I'm loving is simply that. The Good Life...

I'm loving...

Being in the kitchen...coming up with new recipes, and admiring my work ;)

Perfect fresh summer dinner! Greek Open Face Chicken Gyros.

Walking downtown to take care of a few things for upcoming weddings that we will be in and thinking about how lucky we are to have friends that ask us to stand by their side on their most important days.

Meeting for french coffees in one of my favorite San Francisco spots.

Emporio Rulli one of my favorite people watching perches in Union Square.

Taking in the scenery from our windows...

Giants stadium and sailboats on the bay...

Sunsets and fog...

And for a change of pace staying the night at The Joneses and waking up to these beautiful backdrops...

perfectly serene.

Spending time with my friend family, and watching their babes grow...

This gorgeous mama... joined Missy and I for lunch and shared her beautiful boy with us...

My heart just gets bigger and bigger with love for my expanding friend family...

And while Mr. Jones was being happily surprised with a visit from this proud daddy and his family today on their way to the Giants game....

Little Makena in her Orange & Black!!!

I was spending another afternoon with this handsome guy...

Life is good. I've spent the last few days surrounded by those that I love, enjoying home, planning upcoming events (roomies bachelorette!!!), going to my first round of New Teacher Orientation and being surprised to share the room with two fellow student teachers/subs, and really enjoying the everyday things that make this... the good life.
